Geoff's offal-y good opportunity
[ Monday 5th March 2012 ] By Matin  Print This Article
Rossendale Butcher Geoff Riley was on hand to offer an insider’s perspective when a roving reporter from the BBC came to town.

BBC Breakfast headed to Lancashire to investigate the recent rise in the popularity of offal, the term used to describe products such as heart, kidneys and liver, and there was only one butcher on their list to speak to.

Reporter Jenny Hill journeyed to Crawshawbooth to interview multi-award-winning Geoff at Riley’s Butchers and get his take on why he thinks there has been a 24% increase in sales of offal.

Geoff says: “I think the reason offal is so popular is because it’s cheap and tastes good. But that’s not all, it’s very good for you too as it is high in both iron and protein.

“You can also make some very different and interesting recipes with the produce.

“It was great to see the BBC in the shop, it was great for our customers to see the camera crew in action. The team is welcome back any time.’

Reporter Jenny Hill and the crew also happily left with some Riley’s goodies for lunch.

The report, filmed at Riley’s, was broadcast on BBC Breakfast, Thursday 8th March 2012 and is available to watch again online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/12564921
