Paula and Geoff are gearing up to take on their wackiest charity challenge yet – in aid of raising funds for the Crawshawbooth pre-school flood appeal.

The pair, who own multi award-winning Riley’s Butchers in the village, are taking on the Screwball Rally – a 1650 mile drive across Europe – alongside friends and car enthusiasts Chris Driver and Terry Haworth.

The four, who will be driving modified cars inspired by the hit Disney Pixar film Cars, make up Team Sparky, will be joining other charity supporters in the themed rally, which travels to various cities across France and Italy.

The Screwball Rally comes hot on the tails of Riley’s recent fundraising efforts – The Crawshawbooth family fun day - to help replace pre-school equipment ruined by the devastating floods that hit the region in June.

All funds raised by Team Sparky will be split between Crawshawbooth pre-school and the NSPCC.

Paula Riley says: “We are always up for a challenge and when Chris offered us the chance to join his team we jumped at it! After climbing the three peaks last year – this event seemed like a lot of fun.

“We’ve managed to raise over £8000 for the pre-school so far and I’m hoping we can double it with this challenge. We're also looking for businesses to sponsor us and have their branding on the car.”

Teammate Chris Driver says: “Terry and I have worked together for over 10 years at Goodshaw Electrical Ltd, and being ‘petrol-heads’ we love to have adventures like this.

“We signed up to the Screwball Rally after a trip delivering furniture to Prague for my cousin. We had a great time on the road-trip and wanted to do it again –that’s when we found this event.

“The plan to have Geoff and Paula as part of the team came about after Terry and I brought our Lightning McQueen Ford Puma to the Crawshawbooth fun day. Geoff said he’d love to have a go and luckily I’ve managed to track down the perfect car to turn into Mater – another character from the film.

“We transformed the cars ourselves and now we’re putting in lots of hard work to ensure the car is ready in time for the event which is all in aid of two fantastic causes."

The fun-filled event will take place from 27th September until 1st October.
